Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said Wednesday that his soon-to-be-available virtual reality Oculus headset and the computer needed to run it will cost “in the $1,500 range.”

Bevor jetzt alle in Panik ausbrechen, wie die das denn so teuer machen können, möchte ich auf folgendes hinweisen: Ein PC, der Rift-Tauglich ist, liegt zur Zeit knapp über der 1.000 Euro Marke. Eher etwas drüber. [Link]

Given the challenges around VR graphics performance, the Rift will have a recommended specification to ensure that developers can optimize for a known hardware configuration, which ensures a better player experience of comfortable sustained presence. The recommended PC specification is an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD 290, Intel i5-4590, and 8GB RAM. This configuration will be held for the lifetime of the Rift and should drop in price over time.

Die Rift wird also als einzelnes Gerät 399 – 499 Euro/Dollar kosten. [Schätze ich mal]

Ich hoffe eher auf 399 und weniger aber wenn man ehrlich ist, dann ist die Rift ein Spielzeug, das einen teuren PC braucht. Und wenn man sich den leisten kann, dann auch die 500 für die Rift. Aber die Hoffnung stirbt ja bekanntlich zuletzt ;)
